Analysis
The Goal, by Eliyahu Goldratt, is like a step by step guide on how to fix/run a manufacturing plant. This book isn't exclusively helpful to only companies like his either. The main character, Alex, is a manager at a manufacturing plant no different from the other manufacturing managers of his time. Although, after seeing his old physics professor again, he starts to make changes in his plant that all the other companies are struggling with. With the help of his old professor's guidance, he transforms his plant into the most productive plant in his cooperation.
To further understand the functions of these strategies he discovered, we completed assignments corresponding to the book throughout reading it. These included definition sheets (specific to manufacturing terms), reading guides, completing (with a group) a statistics chart, and the goal is lean. The goal is lean is an assignment requiring charts and an essay describing problems the plant had, what kind of problems they were, and how the plant corrected them. This assignment is posted at the bottom of this page.
